Golf
Golf Digest has named West Point’s Old Waverly Golf Club “Mississippi’s #1 Golf
Course” as well as one of “America’s Top 100 Courses.” This 1999 U.S. Women’s Open host offers year round golf play, an antebellum-style clubhouse for dining and exercise, a pool, tennis courts, walking trails, lodging and more.
Outdoor
Hunting, fishing and camping abounds in Clay County, and is especially abundant along the Natchez Trace National Parkway and the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Waverly Waters is the home of a fishing lake designed by Bill Dance and picturesque cabins. West Point is also proud to be the headquarters of Mossy Oak, a national leader in the outdoor industry.
Blues Music
With its recent designation as a point of interest on the Mississippi Blues Trail,
the hometown of blues legend Howlin’ Wolf is becoming known for its musical
heritage. The Howlin’ Wolf Memorial Blues Festival, held each Friday before Labor Day,
features some of the finest musicians in the country. Other concerts continue throughout
the year. The Howlin’ Wolf Blues Museum attracts visitors and contributors from
around the world.
Festivals
Along with the Howlin’ Wolf Memorial Blues Festival other events take place
during the annual Prairie Arts Festival over Labor Day weekend. A major attraction is
the Prairie Arts Festival, featuring many of the South’s finest artisans
showcasing their talents in West Point’s downtown parks. Prairie Arts Festival is
regularly recognized as one of the “Top 10 Events in the South.” The weekend’s
festivities are rounded out by an antique car and hot rod show, a 5K run, and other concerts.
